Don’t Fight Corruption And Forget The Economy, Afenifere Tells Buhari

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

Pan-Yoruba Socio-political organisation, Afenifere, yesterday, advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to focus too much on anti-corruption while leaving the nation’s economy to suffer.

Rising from its monthly meeting in Akure, Ondo State, the group kicked against the sensationalising of corruption by the Federal Government.

National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, who read the communiqué also faulted the presentation of the 2016 budget.

“We support the war, because corruption is evil but we quickly warned that our war against corruption should not be selective, sectional and should be all embracing and compassing,” Afenifere said.

It added that the anti-graft war should be fought “within the confines of rules of law. And the anti-corruption war should not be the only agenda of the government. They should concentrate on rebuilding the economy because we have seen countries that have been ravage by war, Liberia, Serria-Leone, people took over government there and they started rebuilding the economy. So we should not turn anti-corruption to the only agenda. Building the economy is important.

“The naira is collapsing. Every sector is going down. Investors are leaving our country. This should attract the attention of the government because ultimately, our experience have shown that anti-corruption takes a long time to win the war,” Afenifere said.

  1. But you must appreciate, if you are sincere, that corruption is the root cause of all these problems. You did not raise a voice when the last regime recklessly looted the economy. Now that you have found your voice, please advise Pa Olu Falae and other members of your group who collected money from Dasuki and Jonathan to return the loot. In law, whoever receives stolen property is as guilty as the rogue. Since Nigeria needs money and many states and local governments cannot pay salaries, please be patriotic enough to donate money you realized from the CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT jamboree back to the Federal Government. Thank you very much!
