Former Tottenham, Barcelona and Leicester City forward who holds England’s record for most goals in FIFA World Cup finals, has divorced his Welsh model wife, Danielle Lineker over reports he doesn’t want to start another family.
The current TV host and pundit, 55 was previously married to Michelle Cockayne who he broke up with in 2006 before marrying Danielle, 36, in 2009 and it is believed Danielle wanted Children but Gary who already has four grown up boys, feels he is too old to father another.
Gary Lineker took to Twitter this morning to confirm the news, posting: ‘Thank you all for your kind words. @DanielleBux and I had many wonderful years together. We remain very close and the greatest of friends.’
Danielle reiterated his statement, saying: ‘We have shared the most incredible 8 years that I will always cherish. We will remain the best of friends.’
Three weeks ago, Danielle posted a cryptic Instagram message, hinting at heartbreak. It simply read:
‘It’s all about love. We’re either in love, dreaming about love, recovering from it, wishing for it or reflecting on it.’
A spokesman for the couple confirmed the split to the Sun, saying:
“Gary and Danielle have decided to end their marriage and their divorce was confirmed today with the judge granting a Decree Nisi. They remain the greatest of friends and wish each other every happiness.” The source continued “Usually these things are very sad and often acrimonious but with Gary and Danielle it is very much friendly with no legal battle that can cost a lot of money. They didn’t use any solicitors and filed for divorce using a government website where they filled out the forms together. It cost about £400, rather tens of thousands in legal bills. “They made a great couple but their different views on having children is what made them realise had to split. They both know it is the right thing to do and are looking forward to the future. They are convinced they will stay friends.”
