The Project Director of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Policy Forum at the Chatham House, Robert Yates, has said that Ondo state is leading a revolution in healthcare delivery system in Nigeria.
Yates said this at the opening ceremony of the Ondo State Council on Health 2016 (#OndoSCH2016) ongoing at the International Conference and Event Centre (The Dome) Akure.
“With the higher levels of political commitment, public spending and better governance, Ondo is outperforming other states in Nigeria. With a 7-8% budget share it is providing universal free healthcare for pregnant women and children under 5 and have reached MDGs 4 and 5,” Yates, who is also an internationally recognized expert on Progressive Health Financing, said.
“Could Ondo’s success be a model for Nigeria?” he asked.
