The People Democratic Party has once prided itself as the biggest and most influential party in Africa but recent happenings in the party has reduced it to the shadow of its former self since loosing the 2015 general elections. With a lot of its top members arrested or being questioned by the EFCC and the secret service, and defection of key members to the ruling APC, the survival of the PDP hangs on a thin thread. Looking at the recent trends with PDP, INFORMATION NIGERIA has put together 4 things that shows that PDP is truly dispirited…
1. After loosing the 2015 elections woefully to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at almost every level, its greatest fear has come upon it; that is APC’s Muhammadu Buhari’s probe of the past administration. PDP have since started nagging about the probes.
2. The party’s membership and leadership is in such disarray that it has become rocket science to point to anyone of intellectual substance or moral mettle still left at the top hierarchy of the party.
3. The way Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan after leading the party to defeat in the last presidential election quietly retired to his hometown of Otuoke in Bayelsa shows nothing but a pure acceptance of defeat and no hope of rising up.
4. Olisa Metuh, the party’s national publicity secretary who has now been arrested by the anti-graft agency, the EFCC, for allegedly receiving misappropriated public money, was probably one of the few, who tried to keep the party afloat but with corruption charges hanging on his neck, his voice has been muffled and the party further dispirited. Metuh himself has been dispirited with rumours going about he’s on hunger strike in EFCC custody.
Do you agree PDP is well and truly dispirited???
