The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the election of Ibrahim Dankwambo as governor of Gombe State.
A panel of justices dismissed an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Inuwa Yahya, challenging the declaration of Dankwambo as winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the state.
Mr. Dankwambo contested and won re-election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The governorship election tribunal had earlier confirmed the election of Mr. Dankwambo in the April 11 governorship election and when the APC candidate challenged the decision at the Court of Appeal in Yola, Adamawa State, his appeal was dismissed.
Yahya’s hopes of upturning the rulings of the lower courts was, however, dashed on Wednesday as the apex court agreed with their rulings and upheld the election of Governor Dankwambo.
