The newly inaugurated national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, is still under investigation for alleged corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed.
It would be recalled that the EFCC had arrested Mr. Sheriff last June for alleged embezzlement of public funds during his eight years tenure as Governor of Borno State but was granted administrative bail.
The former governor was specifically accused of mismanaging over N300 billion which accrued to his state from the Federation Account between 2003 and 2011.
The Head, Media and Publicity Unit of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, had said at the time, “We can ask him to come back anytime we need him”.
Confirming the matter has not been swept under the carpet on Monday, Mr. Uwujaren, in a telephone interview, said, “Sheriff is still under investigation”.
When asked to explain how far the commission had gone in the probe, he said, “I cannot disclose the details of the investigations for now but the matter is already in the public domain”.
