N/Assembly Will Slash Buhari’s N3.8bn State House Clinic Budget – Rep Amadi

Aso VillaA member of the House of Representatives, Dennis Amadi has said that the House will streamline the controversial N3.8b allocated to State House clinic by President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2016 budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly.

The allocation sparked outrage among Nigerians, who queried why the clinic, which caters primarily to the medical needs of the First family, the vice president’s and staff of the Presidency among others, should surpass the amount allocated to all the 17 federal teaching hospitals combined, nationwide.

In its defense, the Presidency said the total budget for teaching hospitals was more than 50 per cent of the N200 billion allocated to health institutions in the 2016 budget proposal, adding that the State House Clinic serves not just the president and staff of the presidency, but government officials and others.

However, Amadi, who represents Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency of Enugu State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abuja yesterday said there was nothing to worry about as the two chambers of the National Assembly will critically go through all the sectoral allocations and ensure that resources were allocated to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs that need it most for the interest of the Nigerian people.
