Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, yesterday acknowledged that Nigerians are passing through hard times with complaints “coming from every quarter due to the present economic situation”.
In a statement signed by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, the Speaker, however, appealed to the people to persevere, saying the situation will soon improve
Dogara, who spoke in Enugu, at a thanksgiving reception organised by the member representing Nkanu West/Nkanu East Federal Constituency, Chukwuemeka Ujam, noted that the sliding oil prices has made it hard for some states to pay workers’ salaries.
The present economic situation, he said, has called for more patience and sacrifice on the part of the citizenry.
“I sincerely believe that we will not remain here, and that is what our calling as leaders is; to always rise above challenges and seek solutions”, he said.
