Reps Deputy Speaker Denies Plan To Leave APC

Yusuf LasunDeputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Sulaimon Lasun, has debunked speculations that he is planning on dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a new party.

There were reports in the social media that Lasun, whose emergence as deputy Speaker did not receive the blessings of his party’s leadership, was one of those nurturing the idea of forming a new political party before 2019 general elections.

Reacting to the report that in a statement by his spokesman, Wole Oladimeji, the deputy Speaker said that it was “unthinkable” for him to do that.

“It should be noted that this insinuation is far from the truth, let alone having the deputy speaker at this crucial time of the nation’s history leaving such a mega‎ and robust party in the whole of Africa.

“I have always been a committed party faithful even from the days of Alliance for Democracy (AD) when I was the secretary of the party at the state, a position where I served meritoriously”, he said.

He added that as a strong pillar of the party in Osun State, from when the party metamorphosed from AD to ACN, and the eventual formation of the APC‎, “there is no way I could think about leaving the party at this time”.
