Senate President Bukola Saraki has assured Nigerians that now that the Senate has received the 2016 budget, as well as report of the committee on Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), it would expedite action and ensure the budget is passed before the end of next week.

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had often promised Nigerians that the ‘change’ promised during the electioneering campaign would become more visible once the 2016 budget has been passed. The delay in passing the budget had been caused by irregularities noticed in it.

“Today, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje, laid the report of the 2016 Appropriations Bill on the floor of the Senate,” Saraki wrote on his Facebook page.

“Additionally, the Senate received the report of the Conference Committee on the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

“Finally, in accordance with Section 85(2) and (5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic, the Senate received the Annual Report of the Auditor-General of the Federation on the Accounts of the Federation of Nigeria for the year ended 31st December, 2014.
With this, the Senate intends to concentrate on the budget and to pass it before the end of the week,” Saraki wrote.
