Lagos Police Arrest Woman Who Attempted To Set Husband Ablaze

Officials of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, have arrested one Florence Njideka Chukwuma, a housewife over an alleged attempt on the life of her husband, Chinedu.

Florence attempted to set her husband ablaze in their apartment at 48, Olukotun street, Ejigbo area of the state, during the weekend.

The couple hail from Nnewi in Anambra state and have been married for 18 years.
According to P.M News, Florence bought a gallon of petrol which she poured on Chinedu’s body; she then took a lighter to set him ablaze during a quarrel which ensued over a landed property, but before she could achieve her goal, Chinedu jumped over the fence and escaped.

He was said to have sustained injuries as a result of the attack.

According to the embattled husband, trouble started after he went to see their children at school and on returning home, he claimed Florence locked the gate to their house after he got in.

“She then poured petrol on me and attempted to set me ablaze, so I jumped over the fence to wriggle free and I sustained injuries in the process.
“I was then taken to hospital for treatment,” he added.

Chinedu said he then reported the matter to the police but claimed that the matter was treated lightly. This prompted him to write a petition to the SCID before the matter was transferred.

Apart from attempting to set her husband ablaze, reports say the woman destroyed some imported vehicles and house properties worth millions of naira.

She allegedly chased her 47-year old husband out of their matrimonial home and took over the house built by him.

Meanwhile, Florence denied that she attempted to kill her husband.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP), said investigating into the alleged attempted murder was on.
