PDP Chides Magnus Abe Over Comment, Says Wike Tackling Violence In Ogoniland

NYESOM WIKEThe Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that Governor Nyesom Wike was doing everything possible to tackle security challenges in Ogoni area of the state.
The party was reacting to a statement credited to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Abe that the governor’s comment at the 50th birthday anniversary of Senator Lee Maeba set off a chain reaction of violence Ogoniland.
While describing the allegation as untrue and unfortunate, the Rivers PDP chided Mr. Abe for making weighty allegations that he cannot substantiate.
The deputy Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Sam Wonosike, who spoke, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, said that Wike merely enjoined Ogoni people to give their votes to Senator Olaka Worgu in the re-run election as a befitting 50th birthday gift to Senator Maeba, a chieftain of the PDP.
“I am not surprised that Senator Abe will twist what the governor said that was widely reported in the media for cheap political reasons. This has been his style. You remember when he claimed that police shot him. We know him. All Wike said when he attended Lee Maeba’s birthday was widely reported. He only appealed to Ogoni to give Senator Maeba a 50th birthday gift by voting for his party, the PDP. There is nothing wrong with that statement”, Wonosike said.
The PDP deputy spokesman in Rivers stressed that Governor Wike was working with the various security agencies to wipe out cultism and other related problems in the state.
He also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure they conduct free and fair re-run election in areas where they suspended the exercise.
