Police Officer Saves A Family Of 6 From A Woman Who Wanted Them Dead

A woman, Lauretta Ehon flagged down members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command who were patrolling the axis of Ogudu Ori-Oke Ogudu at about 5:30pm over the weekend and told them that some armed robbers just snatched her 2012 Toyota Camry.

Immediately, Police Inspector, Christian Onawona who was with his men responded to her plea and gave chase to the said stolen car. Unfortunately, they got stuck in traffic so the Inspector alighted from the official car and took a bike in order to give chase and capture the alleged robbers.

However, the occupants of the car being chased were unaware of the pursuit of their car until the policeman caught up with them and fired a warning shot into the air.

But when the police approached the car, he found 6 occupants in the car, three females, one male- Mr Wasiu Balogun and two toddlers-a 1 year old and a 2 year old who were all going to a social gathering.

The police later found out that Ehon’s alarm was false.

What actually happened was that Ehon’s husband and the owner of the car transacted a business which had to do with clearing of a Tokunbo car from overseas 6 years ago.
Unfortunately, the vehicle went into demurrage after Mr Ehon paid the clearing agent but he settled with Mr Balogun and gave the car to him.

However, his embittered wife said she would get the money from Mr. Balogun any time she saw him.
So when she saw the car on that day, she decided to lie that they were robbers hoping the police would shoot at them before they (the occupants of the car) had a chance to explain. Unknowing to her, Mr Balogun who transacted business with her husband wasn’t in the car on that day.

One of the occupants  in the car, Bisola Balogun, who was very thankful to the officer said that she was full of praises to the officer who pursued them for not misuing his weapon by shooting at them directly. She said

“In fact, I am still at shock. If it were to be another police officer, it is possible that he might shoot our car and anything could have happened. We thank God and appreciate the officer for applying uncommon wisdom in handling the matter”.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Dolapo Badmos, the police officer showed experience and bravery in handling the issue, if not for him, the entire event could have turned against the police.
Lauretta Ehon has since been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for prosecution.
