The All Progressives Congress, APC, North-central Zone, has pledged to stand by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki as his trial continues at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The embattled Senate president is currently being prosecuted by the federal government on 13-count charge bordering on alleged false assets declaration and corruption while he was governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.
But the North-central APC in a communique issued at the end of a meeting in Lafiya, the Nasarawa State capital at the weekend, vowed to stand by Mr. Saraki until he is proven guilty by the court.
The communique, which was signed by the zonal chairman, Zakari Idde, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leadership of the party to handle Saraki’s trial with caution in the interest of the party’s stability.
According to the North-central APC, the trial was negatively affecting the unity of the party in the zone, calling on the national leadership of the party to explore other ways of resolving the issue.
