According to reports, Real Madrid fans were gunned down by four terrorists while watching the penalty shoot-out in Baakouba, 60km north of Baghdad.

At least 12 fans died instantly whilst eight were wounded and taken to a nearby hospital.

Iraqi authorities have attributed the attack to the Islamic State.

Earlier this month, 16 Iraqi Real Madrid fans were murdered by ISIS at a Real Madrid supporters club in nearby Samarra, Iraq.

The terrorist organisation reportedly believe football to be “anti-Muslim”.

In the aftermath of last night’s penalty shoot-out victory, Florentino Perez dedicated the win to the Real Madrid supporters who perished earlier this month.

“Tragic stories like these make you lose faith in the human race. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those affected by the terrorism in Iraq.” He said.
