Katsina Probe “Disappearance” Of Over N445m From Mashi LGA Treasury

BelloMasari_SpeakerHouseofRepresentativesThe Katsina State Government on Sunday said it would probe the “disappearance” of more than N445 million from the treasury of Mashi Local Government Council.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdulkadir Zakka, disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina.
According to Zakka, records from various departments of the council revealed that the amount was diverted between 2013 and 2015.
He disclosed that the funds were diverted using fake vouchers, adding that about N45 million was released for the purchase of grains, “which was later shared among few individuals”.
The commissioner said 25 officials of the council were directed to vacate their offices pending the conclusion of the investigation by his ministry.
Zakka vowed that any official found wanting would be sacked and prosecuted.
He said the investigation would soon be concluded and its findings made public.
He, however, warned local government workers to ensure transparency in the management of public funds.
