Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has said that those who opposed his appointment as Chairman of the Committee of Lagos at 50 celebration are ignorant.
Soyinka said opponents of his appointment are unaware of his immense support for the development of Lagos State.
The Nobel Laureate spoke at a special children’s programme tagged “Vision of the Child”, which was organized to formally kick-start the one year long activities for the Golden Jubilee of the state.
“I will not join issues with such people”, he said.
Earlier on Friday, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had launched the year-long activities to mark the 50th year anniversary of the state, which will climax on May 28, 2017.
According to Ambode, the activities lined up would showcase to the world the unique achievements, culture, heritage and tourism potentials of the state.
“This golden jubilee celebration will show Lagos for what it is–a home for all and a land of opportunities where dreams are made and fulfilled.
“This celebration will be all inclusive and in furtherance to this, each of the five administrative divisions of the state would have one month to showcase their culture and landmass. In this way, we would expose to the world the uniqueness and diversity of our culture and tradition as well as our great tourism potentials”, the governor said.
