On this day in 2014, the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, died at the age of 76.

The Emir who was born in Doma area of Gombe metropolis in 1938, was said to haveĀ  died at Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham Road, London, where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer, on May 27, 2014.

Abubakar attended Elementary School and Bauchi Middle School. He also attended Barewa College, Zaria in Kaduna State. He was buried on the grounds of the Gombe palace and his son, Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, was appointed as the new Emir of Gombe in early June 2014
