Dilma Rousseff’s Impeachment Trial Begins

Suspended Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff who has become increasingly unpopular has begun her defense at a Senate trial which will determine if she will be impeached.

Brazil is experiencing its worst economic recession in decades and a scandal at the state run oil company Petrobas which has implicated several of her allies has left Rousseff without popular support.

The lower house voted overwhelmingly in favor of her impeachment and only a trial at the Senate will make her impeachment final. Rousseff has lashed out at her political opponent and has labeleed acting President Michael Temer a ‘snake’ and a ‘coup plotter’.

She has expressed fresh optimism that she will beat the impeachment in a trial which she will require 28 votes in her favor and of which she claims she has already secured 22 votes.
