Presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump has shocked America by firing his campaign manager.
The controversial Corey Lewandowski was fired on Monday morning as campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks in a statement;
“The Donald J Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign.
The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”
Donald Trump is facing increasing pressure to tone down his rhetoric as the general election approaches.
Several key figures in the Republican Party have criticized Trump with some going as far as to say they will not attend the convention where he will officially be named flagbearer.
Lewandowski’s sack has not been without its attendant drama. A high ranking Trump campaign official, Michael Caputo took to Twitter immediately the news broke.
He tweeted “Ding dong the witch is dead”.
Caputo has now tendered an apology for the tweet and has resigned from the Trump campaign.
