Ize-Iyamu Emerges PDP’s Flag Bearer

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on Monday emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.

Mr. Ize-Iyamu emerged the PDP flag bearer by polling 584 votes to defeat two other aspirants in a primary election supervised by Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The other two aspirants – Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen and Chief Solomon Edebiri – polled 91 and 38 votes to place second and third respectively, according to the results announced by Gov. Umahi.
Mr. Ize-Iyamu was Secretary to the State Government during former Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s administration between 1999 and 2007.
He was also South-South leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the PDP in 2014.
In his acceptance speech, Ize-Iyamu commended the national leadership of the party and the electoral committee for transparency and fairness in the process.
He said that the fight to reclaim Edo would continue until the party produced the governor in the September election.
