EFCC Allegedly Freezes Fayose’s Account

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has frozen the personal account of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose and that of his associates, reports Vanguard.

Speaking at the premises of Zenith Bank, Ado-Ekiti, where he had his personal account, Fayose said he had been informed days earlier about plans by the Presidency to freeze his account.

Governor Fayose had on Sunday alleged that the presidency was planning to use the EFCC to destabilize Ekiti, saying that part of the plot involved arresting and detaining his Chief of Staff and four members of the state House of Assembly, in an attempt to coerce them into commencing impeachment proceedings against him. What he did not see coming, however, was the freezing of his account.

Fayose said a source at the Bank told him that his account was allegedly frozen on the order of the EFCC.

The governor said he had earlier issued a counter-cheque to make withdrawal which was rejected by the bank located at Onigari, GRA in Ado Ekiti. He described the action by the EFCC as criminal and illegal.

Fayose reminded the anti-graft agency that he enjoys immunity, citing Section 308 of the 1999 constitution.
