The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari over his comment yesterday that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable.
The president had while addressing residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, who came to pay him Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said keeping Nigeria united is a task that must be accomplished.
President Buhari was speaking on the renewed agitations for Biafra by MASSOB and IPOB as well as demand for self-rule for the Niger Delta peoples by the Niger Delta Avengers.
Responding to the president’s comment, National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, claimed that Nigeria has already been divided under Mr. Buhari’s watch.
He further stated that the president might not be reading the mood of the nation correctly with his comment.
“I think the President is a sincere man but he may not be reading the mood correctly.
“The country is divided under him than before. Amalgamation and armed dialogue are going on all around us over the unity of Nigeria which many sections perceive has treated them unfairly.
“To continue to insist that the unity is not negotiable is aping that bird which buries its head in the sand and believes, because it is seeing nobody, it has become invisible too”, Odumakin stated.
