The Akwa Ibom State Government has refuted a media report that the state received the sum of N17.8 billion as its share of the statutory allocation for the month of July.
The denial was made by the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon, at a news briefing in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Wednesday.
Mr. Okon decried the media report copiously published on several print and online media, describing the story as misleading and fictitious.
According to him, a total of N559.03 billion was shared among the federal, states, and local governments by the Federal Account and Allocation Committee (FAAC) and not the N673, 324 billion as reported in the media.
Out of that sum, the commissioner stressed that Akwa Ibom received N7.4 billion (seven billion , four hundred million naira) as its own share of statutory allocation for the month of June, shared in July, while the 31 local government areas in the state got the sum of N3.3 billion.
Mr. Okon, therefore, called on journalists to always verify their facts before rushing to publish them.
