Man Charged For N520,000 House Rent Scam

A 46-year-old trader, Monsuru Abass has been charged before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court with duping a prospective tenant the sum of N520,000 with the guise of renting him a mini flat.

He was arraigned on Tuesday on a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretence and stealing, the offences he pleaded not guilty of.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby told the court that the alleged offences were committed on January 13, at No. 4, Ita-Faaji Street, off Isale-Gangan, Lagos Island.

He accused the suspect of obtaining N520,000 as rent from one Lukmon Lawal “with pretext to give him a room and parlour self-contained apartment situated at No. 34, Freeman Street, Lagos Island, a representation you knew to be false.”

He added the offence contravene the Sections 312(3) and 285(9)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the presiding Magistrate, Mr M.O Amos granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and moved the case to Monday, August 8.
