Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has extended his support for Bastian Schweinsteiger, insisting he does not see the player returning to his former club.
Schweinsteiger, 31, left Bayern Munich for Old Trafford last season, but has been unable to live up to the high expectations at Manchester, amid recurring injury problems.
According to reports, new manager Jose Mourinho is expected to tell the world cup winner he is surplus to requirement.
“I am 100 per cent convinced that Schweinsteiger will not return to Germany,” Rummenigge told TZ.
“Bayern Munich are his club and he would never play for another Bundesliga club. I would be hugely surprised if that were to happen.
“I can see him stay at Manchester United and try to achieve their goals under a new coach. Maybe he could surprise Mourinho.
“Either way, Bastian has had an amazing career. Nothing can change that.”
The German international has a contract with the Red Devils till June 2018.
