24 year old Mario Gotze was once of the most coveted players in the world and when Guardiola had an ambitious £30million bid for him, it was hard to see what could go wrong. Guardiola even once referred to him as the best player he had ever trained since Lionel Messi.
Sadly, three years at Bayern Munich saw Gotze quickly becoming a bit part player, struggling through injuries and getting barely enough games to justify his price tag.
With just one year left on his contract and a new coach, Carlo Ancelotti coming in, Gotze fancied his chances of staying at the Allianz Arena. Unfortunately, he has reportedly been informed that he will not be in the first team plans of Ancelotti and is now being linked with a return to Borrussia Dortmund in a deal thought to be worth £19 million.
His return of 6 goals and 4 assists in the previous season means that Gotze has a lot to do if he ever aims to be widely respected again.
