Lagos State Will Enforce Six Month Jail Term For

Patronizing Street Hawkers

Many Lagosians are divided on the issue as the law would not affect sellers alone but buyers alike. However, Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili shared her thoughts from the economic point of view and INFORMATION NIGERIA brings you everything she has to say.

In a series of tweets on Monday, July 4th, the forerunner of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign said that street hawking which is a form of Informal economy, is critical to our Economic Growth, Employment and Poverty Reduction. However, it is viewed with suspicion despite its benefits mostly because informality is equated with criminality and leads to “Bans”.

Do you agree with her?
