Chris King has become the first person in the UK to have a double hand transplant.
The surgery occurred at the UK’s specialist centre at Leeds General Infirmary.
The 57 year-old lost both his hands in an accident involving a metal pressing machine at work 3 years ago.
The man from from Doncaster, South Yorkshire recovering after the surgery said: “I couldn’t wish for anything better. It’s better than a lottery win because you feel whole again.”
He also said the operation had been a complete success and he already had some movement.
“The hands look absolutely tremendous,” he explained. “I can’t wait to get all this (the bandages) off and look at them properly.”
He said he is looking forward to holding a bottle of beer and wearing shirts with real buttons.
