Seven people are feared drowned after a boat carrying passengers capsized in Gumi River, Zamfara State.
According to the Senior District Head of Gumi Emirate, Alhaji Bala Gamo, the incident occurred on Tuesday as the boat with a capacity to carry 10 passengers ferried twenty-two—only for the boat to capsize as a result of over loading.
Alh. Bala who made this known to reporters on Wednesday, said rescuers are searching for the missing persons who are mainly farmers returning home from their farms.
A team from the the emirate council was led by the district head to the families of the victims in a sympathy visit.
Meanwhile, Gov. Abdulaziz Yari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Enlightenment, Ibrahim Dosara, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and has directed the State Emergency Management Agency officials who joined the search party to provide drugs for the rescued passengers.
