Doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Ekiti State are set to commence a three-day warning strike today (Monday) following management’s inability to pay full salaries to their members, among other issues.
The decision to embark on warning strike was disclosed at a press briefing on Sunday by Chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, Ekiti branch, Dr Timothy Olajide, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
According to Dr. Olajide, the decision became inevitable after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the management.
He said the council at its meeting on Thursday, decided that its members would no longer accept salaries of resident doctors as senior officials of the hospital.
“The doctors also demanded immediate payment of the shortfall in the salary of members for the month of July, 2016.
“We regret any inconvenience this inevitable action may cause our patients”, he said.
