French Court Suspends Controversial Ban On Burkini

A French court has temporarily overturned a controversial ban on burkini swimsuits in the Mediterranean town of Villeneuve-Loubet.

The burkini is a full body swimsuit favored by Muslims. The French court ruled that a ban on the burkini is a breach on civil liberties and temporarily set it aside.

The court said that a ban on burkinis in Villeneuve-Loubet “seriously, and clearly illegally, breached the fundamental freedoms to come and go, the freedom of beliefs and individual freedom”.

The subject of whether women should be allowed to wear burkinis has become a touchy one as it had been linked to Islamopbobia.
