Ibadan Auto Crash Claims 10 Lives

No fewer than ten people were said to have lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in a motor accident involving a Toyota Hiace Bus with plate number LSD 191 XK along  Ibadan-Oyo Road on Saturday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the bus which was traveling to Ilorin from Sango-Ota lost control of the steering as he tried to dodge a large pothole in the middle of the road–which resulted in the bus running into a ditch

One of the eyewitnesses said, “The condition of the road caused the accident. There are several potholes in the middle of this road and several drivers have fallen victims. The driver of the passenger bus was trying to manoeuvre his way when he lost control and fell into the ditch below. Ten people died on the spot.

Confirming the accident, the Spokesperson of the Oyo State Federal Road Safety Corps, Oluwaseun Onijala, said the remains of the victims has been deposited in the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue while those that sustained injuries are currently being treated at various hospitals in Ibadan.

“The bus had 19 passengers on board. Ten persons died while nine other passengers sustained injuries. The injured victims were taken to the Akinlolu Hospital and St. Patrick’s Hospital where they are receiving treatment. The remains of the dead passengers were deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in Ibadan,” he said.
