Labourers Remanded In Prison For Killing Colleague Over Stolen Handset

Two labourers, Ayuba Abu, 32 and Dogo Yakubu, 30, have been remanded in prison by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly torturing their colleague, Mamudu Amidu, 34, to death over stealing of a mobile phone.

In his statement, the prosecutor, Sgt, Jimah Iseghede told the court that the two accused conspired with others at large to beat the victim till he lost consciousness.

He said the incident took place at Plot 10, Prime Adesoji Ajose Street, Ogudu GRA Phase 11, Ogudu, adding that they drenched Amidu in muddy water as they continue with the beating.

According to Sgt Iseghede, the victim was found dead around 3am on July 9 in the water. He however, prayed the court to remand the suspects in prison custody pending legal advice from Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The defendants, in their statement pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Magistrate B.O. Ope-Agbe granted the prosecutor’s submission to remand the accused in prison custody as he adjourned the case to September 13 for mention.
