NASA’s Juno probe has provided the closest look at the planet Jupiter.
The pass was the first of 36 planned orbital flybys, NASA said in a statement. Soaring at 130,000 miles per hour, the solar spacecraft will eventually get to Jupiter during its main mission, which should end in February 2018.
NASA launched the space probe, Juno in 2011, the first probe to orbit Jupiter since their Galileo mission ended in 2003.
Today is the day of my #Jupiter closest approach! I’ll skim past the planet at a mere 2,600 miles above the clouds. pic.twitter.com/QJ8u5aJWAF
