The abductors of the member representing Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bello, are demanding a ransom of N10million before they release him.
A member of the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Katsina State, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers have reached out to associates of Mr. Bello.
The spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, Salisu Agaisa, denied knowledge of ransom demand even as he disclosed that Katsina and Kaduna (where the abduction took place) States are collaborating to rescue the lawmaker unharmed from his captors.
“For now, we don’t have information about whether the captors have demanded ransom from any quarters”, said Agaisa, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP.
He added that police detectives had already swung into action with a view to rescuing the victim.
“Though the incident occurred in Kaduna State, I want to assure you that the two police commands are sharing intelligence information with the aim of rescuing the member”.
Agaisa further explained that the police were working hand-in-hand with Bello’s family to ascertain whether the kidnappers had demanded a ransom.
He urged the public to assist the police with vital information that would lead to the rescue of the federal lawmaker.
