Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez of Spain have won the Olympic men’s doubles tennis title, beating Romania’s Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau. The final match lasted two hours and 26 minutes and ended 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in favor of the Spaniards who secured their third gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
It’ll come as a big morale boost for Nadal who has struggled with injuries for the better part of last year especially since he’s still in the singles draw. He said immediately after the win, “It is a privilege to be able to share this moment with one of my best friends,”
He will play Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals on Saturday.
