Nigerian table tennis star, Aruna Qadri who is ranked World no. 30 has made history. Qadri has become the first African table tennis player to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Olympics.

Qadri has been in exceptional form in Rio, having already orchestrated a major upset in the third round by beating the world number 5 Chih-Yuan Chuang in four sets.

He beat world number 13, Timo Boll, a German in Monday’s fourth round, 4-2 ( 12-10, 12-10, 11-5, 3-11, 5-11, 11-9) in what was his most convincing performance so far.

Qadri will face his sternest test of the Olympic when he faces the world number one and the defending champion, Ma Long.
