World Humanitarian Day: A Minute Of Silence To Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh.

It’s the World Humanitarian Day today, August 19th. This day is dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as part of a Swedish-sponsored GA Resolution A/63/L.49 on the Strengthening of the Coordination of Emergency Assistance of the United Nations. INFORMATION NIGERIA therefore remembers Ameyo Adadevoh.

1.Ameyo Adadevoh born Ameyo Stella Shade Adadevoh on 27 October 1956 and concindentally died on 19 August 2014, for her humanitarian work.

2.Dr Adadevoh will never be forgotten for preventing the Nigerian Ebola index case from leaving the hospital at the time of diagnosis, thereby playing a key role in curbing the spread of the virus in Nigeria. Adadevoh is survived by her husband Afolabi and son Bankole among other relatives.

3.She was also the first Nigerian to contract Ebola virus after treating Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer.

4.It was Dr Adadevoh who alerted the government on Patrick Sawyer’s health condition when it became clear Sawyer had EVD not minding that he insisted that he be discharged at all cost, even without recovering.

5.She was the first grandchild of Herbert Macaulay’s daughter, Mrs Sarah Idowu Abigail Adadevoh making her a great granddaughter of the late nationalist and the founder of Nigerian nationalism.

We also remember our gallant soldiers that have fallen in the battle against Boko Haram, all the victims of Boko Haram insurgency and all true health workers including those that contracted EVD from Sawyer.
