September is the 9th month of the year

It marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern hemisphere and the start of spring in the Southern hemisphere.

The name September comes from the Latin word ‘Septem’ for seven since this was the seventh month of the Roman calendar.

The month was named during a time when the calendar year began with March, which is why its name no longer corresponds with its placement in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.

September starts on the same day of the week as December each year but does not end on the same day of the week as any other month in the year.
