In his continued effort assisting the less privileges, the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has enrolled about 1,500 orphans and children in primary schools, to help them get access to qualitative education.

This makes a total of  3,000 orphans and less privileged children currently being sponsored by the monarch through his Shehu Usman Abubakar Foundation.

The aim of the gesture was to help the children and reduce the emotional stress they have been going through after losing their parents, the emir said while presenting gifts and learning materials to the orphans at a ceremony held at the Emir’s palace in Gombe.

According to the Emir, by successfully launching the second batch of the scholarship he has fulfilled the promise he made at the inauguration last year of continuing with the scheme.

He however, called on other members of the public, especially the wealthy in the society, to also contribute in assisting the orphans, disables and other less privileges in the state.

In his remark, the deputy governor of Gombe State,  Charles Iliya, praised the emir for his efforts in taking responsibility of the 3000 children, as well as distribution of food and clothes to the needy.
