The Council of State meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari is currently ongoing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting is the second one under the current dispensation while the first was held on October 21, 2015.
Some former Presidents and Head of State who were at the meeting when it started around 11:07 a.m. on Wednesday included Goodluck Jonathan, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ernest Shonekan.
Jonathan was attending the meeting for the first time since leaving office in May 2015.
Former leaders who were conspicuously absent at the meeting included Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Shehu Shagari, Yakubu Gowon.
Obasanjo has not attended any of the council of state meeting called by President Buhari.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara were not at the meeting when it started.
Among the state governors at the meeting included Rivers, Borno, Niger, Imo, Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Benue, Bauchi, Enugu, Kwara, Adamawa.
Others are Abia, Sokoto, Kaduna, Lagos, Kogi, Plateau, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina.
Former Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN) at the meeting included Lawal Uwais, Mariam Aloma-Muktar, Idris Kutigi and Alfa Belgore.
The meeting is expected to consider names of nominees to fill vacant positions of National and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The electoral commission, as presently constituted, has six national commissioners out of 12, while 21 out of 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners are yet to be appointed.
President Buhari is also expected to brief the council on the nomination of Ibrahim Idris as acting Inspector-General of Police and recommend him for confirmation. The Nigerian Police Council (NPC) is expected to ratify the appointment thereafter.
