Katsina Losing 5Km To Desertification Yearly – Gov Masari

The Katsina State Governor,  has called for attention on the devastating effects of desertification—which is making the state lose about 5km annually.

The governor made this call while speaking at the launching of the Green Project initiated by the Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies.

He stated that the forest has been reduced to shrubs and grasses noting that the adverse effects are manifesting already, while urging people to embrace the culture of planting trees to mitigate the problem.

 

He added that the situation could however, be reversed with the right attitude from people

 

Also speaking at the launching, the Provost of the college, Prof. Sa’adiyya Sani Daura said the project was conceived in view of its economic potentials, which will provide about 300 people with 10,000 seedlings of eucalyptus to be planted and monitored.

She said,  the project include raising seedlings and  setting up an orchard that has already planted mango, cashew, guava, moringa, Indian lime, orange and date palm among others.
