Plateau PDP Under Pressure To Accept Mass Defectors From APC – Party Chair

PDP-logoThe Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is expecting a mass defection of its former members from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party hinged its belief of an impending mass defection to its fold on the widening gulf within the ruling APC and the widespread discontentment from Plateau people over the inability of the government of the day to meet their development aspirations.

The Plateau PDP Chairman, Damishi Sango, who made this known in a chat with journalists in Jos, the state capital yesterday, claimed that the party was under pressure to accept those who have indicated their intention to return to their former party.

“Our people have waited one year plus now to be fed with excuses. They can no longer take excuses from the party that promised solutions. Within the APC, there is growing discontent. The party is alienating members, most of whom, have no idea where the governor and the party structure are heading to.

“So, we are having pressure to accept people, who are already making indications. We are making arrangements to formally receive them. Our doors are always open”, said Sango.

He said with three senators, six out of seven House of Representatives’ members, 10 out of 23 House of Assembly members, the PDP is still a force to reckon with in the state.

“This means the APC government of Simon Lalong cannot excite anybody to join him in that party”, he added.

But in a swift reaction, the Publicity Secretary of the Plateau APC, Chindo Dafat, said the APC had won all the rerun elections in the state since 2015.

“We won all re-run elections. We don’t believe in making noise. Our party is busy with issues of governance, trying to clear the mess the PDP handed to us”, Dafat said.
