Two persons were on Sunday night shot dead during an inter-cult clash in Egita community in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was learnt that the two cult groups, the Icelanders and the Greenlanders, that had been terrorising the area were locked in a supremacy war.

A community source told our correspondent that the cause of the recent clash was still not known, but added that the boys in the area had not clashed for a long time now.

The source gave the names of the victims as Chikodi Orikoha and Nwatata Geraldine, adding that they were indigenes of Akabuta and Egita communities.

He disclosed that another victim, Mr. Promise Udoh, was shot in the leg and that he was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The source said, “Two people were killed on Sunday night during a shootout between two cults in Egita community.

“The Icelanders and Greenland gangs engaged in a fierce gun battle. Victims are from Akabuta and Egita communities in Egi clan in Onelga.

“The names of those killed in the inter-cult war were Chikaodi Ijeoma Orikoha and Nwatata Gerrad, while Promise Udo was shot in the leg.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said he was aware of the development.

Omoni, who noted that he did not have the details, added, “We are working on that report. I am yet to get the full details.”
