Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), earlier today held a closed door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The elder statesman served his two terms as president on the platform of the now weakened party between 1999-2007, but left as a result of disagreement with the immediate past president and leadership of the opposition party.

According to Channels Television, Sheriff said he visited the elder statesman for consultations over the leadership crisis rocking the PDP.

Both Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi are laying claims to the chairmanship of the party.
