3 Alleged Bank Robbers In Court For Stealing N11m

 

Three men on Monday appeared before a Katsina Senior Magistrates court for alleged robbery of over N11m at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University branch of a first generation bank.

The trio: Suleiman Hamisu, Usman Ibrahim and Onyishi Uche, along with others now at large, were alleged to have burgled the bank’s branch penultimate Saturday and made away with N11,251,000.

The three accused persons, according to the Police First Information Report on the incident, are residents of Katsina.

The FIR with number KT/1274X/16, read in the court added, “On 22/10/16, between 0130 and 040 hours, Suleiman Hamisu, Usman Ibrahim and Onyishi Uche, all of Katsina and others at large, conspired, attacked and robbed a branch of (name withheld) Bank at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University of the sum of eleven million, two hundred and fifty-one thousand naira (N11,251,000.00) at gun point where fire proof cabinet, CCTV Camera, doors, ATM machines, among other properties therein were vandalized, contrary to Section 6(b) of Robbery and Fire arms (Special provision) Act Cap R11,LFN,2004.”

When the trio appeared before the court on Monday, the presiding magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko, told them that their offence could only be tried by the High Court after the completion of Police investigation and a prima facie might have been established against them by the state Ministry of Justice.

She advised them to also seek bail from the High Court.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Kabir Mohammed, told the court that investigation was still in progress on the case, requesting for adjournment.

Dikko adjourned the case to November 14, 2016 for mention, while directing that the accused be remanded in Police custody till then.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man, Isah Nalabbo, was also on Monday remanded in prison custody till December 12, 2016 when his alleged rape case will come up for mention in the court.

Nalabbo is facing a one-count charge of alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl at Bauche village in the Safana Local Government Area of the state.

The offence, according to the Police First Information Report with number: KT/541X/16, on the case, is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The victim’s father, Ado Dabiru, reported the incident at Safana Divisional Police headquarters, claiming that Nalabbo, who is his neighbour, committed the offence on May 11, 2016.
