Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Adichie has been named as the new ambassador for British beauty brand Boots. No.7.
No7 is a brand of beauty products developed by Boots UK. It is branded as number seven because the number, according to popular culture, denotes perfection.
The Enugu-born writer, about her new gig, said in a statement :
“I love makeup and its wonderful possibilities for temporary transformation. And I also love my face after I wash it all off. There is something exquisitely enjoyable about seeing yourself with a self-made new look. And for me that look is deeply personal. It isn’t about what is in fashion or what the rules are supposed to be. It’s about what I like. What makes me want to smile when I look in the mirror. What makes me feel slightly better on a dull day. What makes me comfortable.”
Adichie herself is a global icon of feminists. She became a symbol for feminism following her viral TEDx Talk from 2013, We Should All Be Feminists, which was first sampled in Beyonce’s Grammy-winning song, Flawless.
The speech was later converted into a mini book, which was gifted to every high school student in Sweden last December.
In academia, the 39-year-old holds higher degrees from John’s Hopkins and Yale, as well as a MacArthur “Genius Grant” from 2008.
