Former German Goalkeeper Tim Wiese is set to make his debut in professional wrestling.
The former Bayern Leverkusen footballer was confirmed by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to make is long-awaited debut in September’s European tour.
He is expected to team with other wrestlers in a 6-man tag action.
Wiese alongside WWE Superstars Cesaro and Sheamus will take on the team of the Shining Stars and Bo Dallas at WWE’s Live event in Munich on November 3.
“It’s awesome to make my first WWE appearance in such a great match,” said the 34 year-old former Werder Bremen star. “I worked hard for this moment and I can’t wait to step into the WWE ring together with Cesaro and Sheamus.”
At 6ft 4ins and 129kg, Wiese, who was capped eight times for the German National Team, was personally invited to train with WWE by Triple H and in early September spent a week at the WWE’s state-of-the-art Performance Center in Orlando Florida.
He got to train with other NXT athletes under the guidance of the NXT coaching team, led by Head coach Matt Bloom. Since then, Wiese has been working out daily in Cologne at a training facility complete with specially-constructed ring.
“As a former elite professional athlete, Tim knows what it takes to focus on a goal and go all-out to achieve it,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative. “It will be a historic night for WWE in Germany when Tim steps into the ring alongside Cesaro and Sheamus.”
