I’m being detained for unknown offence – Policeman

A policeman attached to the Police Mobile Force 19, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has cried out from a cell, saying he is being detained without committing any offence.

The policeman, who identified himself as Sadiku Sunday, said he had been in the cell for over two weeks.

He explained this in a text message made available to our correspondent on Thursday.

“I am Sadiku Sunday, serving in Mopol 19, Port Harcourt, Rivers State Police Command. I have been in this cell for over two weeks now without committing any offence.

“This was after they had removed my rank. Now, I am still in the cell and I don’t know what I did,” the message from Sunday read in part.

However, a top police officer told our correspondent that although he was not aware of Sunday’s travails, it was not possible for him (Sunday) to undergo such punishment without committing any offence.

The officer said, “The police force is a regimented organisation where orders are obeyed. So, the person in question must have committed a serious offence.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, told our correspondent on the telephone that he was not aware of the matter.
